What if social media algorithms functioned much like your own mind? This TEDx talk opens with the idea that the posts provoking the strongest emotional reactions are a digital mirror of your mind's feedback loops. Just as our subconscious revisits unresolved emotions and recurring thoughts; algorithms notice what captures our attention and reflect it back, revealing not only our conscious interests but also hidden aspects of ourselves.
Drawing on insights from Neuroscience (Neuroplasticity), Machine Learning (Pedro Domingos’ work), and Carl Jung’s Shadow Psychology, this talk explores how we can apply these tools for introspection and personal growth.
Through Mindful Engagement and Conscious Observation of our triggers and emotional reactions, we can identify behavioural patterns and even influence the algorithms to rewrite themselves. By doing so, we can develop more positive and intentional social media feeds aligned with our specific goals for self-development, shifting from mindless scrolling to purposeful, empowered engagement.
